Shifting the Lens

Open minds & tell stories

This 10 week class will explore the intersection of photography and social justice. Photographs can give us a view into a new perspective, identity, and lifestyle. How can photography help us consider larger social issues? Can photography spur on change?

This class will have students looking at artists who use photography to open minds, shift perspectives and tell stories. We will dig into several methods and techniques from documentary photography to digitally altered photography. There will be opportunities to exhibit the work we create in digital format, through projection, and in large scale format.

The class is run online via Zoom by instructors Liz Williams and Leslie Rosenberg for 10 consecutive Wednesdays, Feb 3 to April 7 2021 from 4 – 5:30pm. The class costs $170pp, financial aid is available.

This class is open to girls and nonbinary children aged 14 – 16. All students will need a computer with internet access, and a cellphone with a camera.
